NLP and Education

Neuro-Linguistic Programming can be used to improve educational outcomes for students and teachers, from addressing learning disabilities and problems, to assisting gifted students.

The goal of NLP in education is to offer additional tools to teachers, students, and parents to improve the effectiveness of goal oriented learning. NLP approaches learning through the cognitive processes ("learning strategies") used to acquire skills and knowledge. Students should have a wide range of learning strategies to be successful learning different knowledge and skills.

If students have learning difficulties these can be due to inappropriate learning strategies, limiting beliefs related to their ability to learn, negative learning states associated to particular classrooms or academic subjects, or a mismatch between the learning strategy of the student and teaching style of the teacher. Similarly dyslexics can be helped using varied learning strategies.

Sarah Carson qualified as a teacher in the UK in 1998 receiving her Masters in Education and Drama, and has taught for 18 years in a variety of educational establishments in the UK and US, most recently spending 8 years as a classroom teacher in the prestigious United Nations International School in New York (UNIS). She combines this deep educational knowledge with her NLP skills in assisting students, while maintaining a pragmatic and down to earth approach to the classroom and the educational process.
