Driving Test Fears, Driving Confidence

Fears of Driving: what causes these fears and what can we do about them when they are driving us crazy?
Pass your driving test with confidence and ease.
My friend Jenny was learning to drive. Her boyfriend would pick her up from the station in Rockville Center in their car so she could drive home and get some practice in. The problem is (she told me) that as soon as the conductor announced the stop, she starts to panic, her heart rate starts to race, and she feels herself start to sweat as she imagines driving. By the time she reaches the car she is a nervous wreck, and driving home is torture. She is ruled by her fear of driving, and dreads the thought of her upcoming driving test. Can you help me overcome my fears of driving she asked me?
How can NLP and Hypnosis help to overcome fear of driving, and fear of the driving test itself?
Jenny and I reviewed each of the various triggers that brought on her fear of driving:
- the sound of her stop being announced on the train
- the thought of getting into the car
- the sight of the rear view mirror
- the feeling of adjusting the seat.
As she did so Jenny described her fears, and the thought of driving, and her upcoming driving test, in detail. Each time she described her driving fears we went through lead a technique to make her feel relaxed, driving away those fears she used to feel. She would lead her to describe another aspect of her experience that lead her to feel that fear of driving, and driving test fears. But each time those fears would seem less intense, until eventually she was laughing and shrugging the fears off.
We then used the NLP "phobia cure" to really drive away any remaining fears of driving. The phobia cure essentially involves:
- watching yourself on a movie screen in a black and white movie, doing the thing you are afraid of, in this case driving
- then floating into the end of the movie and
- running the movie as if you are inside the movie, but as if the movie runs backwards
By this time the old driving fears were totally gone, so I asked Jenny how she wanted to feel when she was driving. She described a state of confident driving. I got her to describe the state of driving confidence until I could see the confidence shining out of her face, then I got her to imagine getting into her car with that confidence in her driving, and to imagine driving confidently on the route to her home, and then on other routes and roads she might drive.
Finally we used hypnosis to make that sense of confidence in driving available to her at any and all times.
